Phoenix set to enjoy home comforts in June

After a winning start to the 2016 season, every weekend of June will bring an opportunity to experience Tamworth Phoenix action at the Atherstone Sports Hub (CV9 1LX).

First up, on Sunday, June 5th, the Premiership North division-leading Phoenix adult team (3-0) face off against the only team to come away from the Atherstone Sports Hub with a victory in 2015, the Sheffield Predators (1-2).

The Phoenix then host the long-term rival East Kilbride Pirates on June 12th and the local Coventry Jets on June 26th. But after the showdown with the Sheffield Predators, it is the visiting teams that will be out to avenge recent defeats to the Phoenix.

After 55-7, 53-14 and 55-0 victories over the East Kilbride Pirates, Lancashire Wolverines and Coventry Jets, Tamworth Phoenix Director of Operations Daniel Norgrove says that the Phoenix adult team is working harder than ever to prepare for the challenges ahead:

“It’s been a fantastic start to the season, but the ethos amongst the players and coaches hasn’t changed.” Said Norgrove. “There is no sense of contentment with what has been done so far. It’s a long season and any team can win in the Premiership North.”

Saturday, June 18th will also see the Phoenix under-17 Youth team host its annual home tournament. With the Phoenix being back in the Midlands conference, the Birmingham Bulls, Birmingham Lions and Sandwell Steelers will visit for the team’s second multi-game tournament of the season.

“Our teams experienced tough semi-final playoff losses last season and the offseason felt different this year, especially for our adult team.” Said Tamworth Phoenix President James Hossack. “The Midlands isn’t short of talent. We’ve added some great players and everyone’s bought into our plan – #R1SE and the program’s values.”

After an action-packed June, taking the 2016 season past its halfway point, there will be just one more regular season home game for the Phoenix. But with free entry for Phoenix games, all will be welcomed to the Atherstone Sports Hub (CV9 1LX)., 2.30pm KO.
