Phoenix set for super weekend of free American Football taster sessions

The Super Bowl took place last Sunday and the Tamworth Phoenix are inviting all who enjoyed American Football’s biggest match to try out the sport for themselves. On both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, the Phoenix will be hosting free taster sessions at the Atherstone Sports Hub (CV9 1LX).

With participants of all ages being welcome, each day will consist of a session for participants up to the age of nineteen from 09:30 until 11:30 and aged above nineteen from 12:00 until 14:00. All equipment will be provided, with only suitable footwear needing to be brought along by those taking part.

“After the Super Bowl, we get an opportunity with the taster sessions to re-invigorate and re-excite the local community and get more people involved.” Said Tamworth Phoenix Director of Performance Jason Scott. “We’d love it for those who come along to try out American Football and hopefully stay with us through the season”

In contrast to the US’s National Football League season finishing with the Super Bowl, the UK’s British National Leagues season is only just beginning. With preparations for the 2016 season underway, coaches and players from the Tamworth Phoenix under-17, under-19 and adult teams are keen to welcome any newcomers.

Those trying out American Football at the taster sessions will get an opportunity to experience what many describe as the ultimate team sport. Though Super Bowl media headlines will feature Denver Broncos superstar quarterback Peyton Manning, those with an appreciation of the sport will describe how it was Manning’s teammates across the Broncos’ defensive and offensive units that played an equally important role.

“It’s always great to give people an opportunity to try out American Football and to enable them to gain a better understanding of the sport,” said Tamworth Phoenix President James Hossack. “Our preparation for the 2016 season is going well across the board and we’re excited for another opportunity to hopefully welcome some more participants, also to our recently relaunched under-19 team.”

But the diminishing number of winter days only heralds the emergence of the British American Football season in the spring. So to support a key step in 2016 towards establishing a comprehensive American Football program, Phoenix coaches are keen to maximise opportunities for teaching the diverse skills and values for success in the sport.

“A lot of people will have watched the Super Bowl last week and it’ll be the only time they watch American Football for the year. If you’re excited by a dynamic sport, come and give it a go,” said Tamworth Phoenix Director of Performance Jason Scott. “We have one of the best teams in the country in Tamworth right on the doorstep with some great coaching, some great players and a great family environment.”
