The Phoenix have always been very proud of the many strong relationships they have with university teams across the Midlands and it was great to see so many of their former and current players inducted into the British Student American Football Hall of Fame.
Current Phoenix RB Adam Hope was also inducted following his impressive career at Loughborough University, which he continues to improve upon with the Phoenix and Great Britain Lions.
Former players who have represented the Phoenix include:
• Tristan Varney – University of Birmingham
• Dan Conroy – University of Birmingham
• Josh Vines – University of Birmingham
• Jack Daley – Loughborough University
Last and certainly not least, there was another inductee, this one to the Coaches British Students American Football Hall of Fame! One of only 5 coaches inducted this year was the Phoenix’s own Jason Scott.
Recently elected Director of Performance and Adult team defensive coordinator Jason Scott has enjoyed a long and illustrious career in coaching before re-joining the Phoenix last season. Loughborough as player 1998-2003 LB/DL, DLine Coach 2003-05, HC 2005-11 (42-5-1 regular season record). Two College Bowl appearances. Coached at Endicott College(2011-14) and Mississippi State (2014-15).
“I’m hugely grateful and honoured to be inducted into the British Student American Football Hall of Fame.” Coach Scott said. “I believe that it is the role of the coach to put athletes in a position to succeed, and I’ve been extremely fortunate to have coached some of the best throughout my coaching career. I’m equally delighted that some of those fantastic players have also been inducted into the Hall of Fame this year as well.
American Football is a team game, and whilst this may be an individual honour, I feel that it has been earned by every coach, player, administrator, friend, fan and official that I’ve shared this journey with.”
Tamworth’s current crop of university players will be hard at work preparing for the BUCS season as they try to be the next names on the Hall of Fame list.
Good luck to all those kicking off their seasons this weekend!
