Sunday January 31st will see the Tamworth Phoenix program come together for a special ‘Phoe-Day’, another early opportunity for the 2016 Phoenix to work hard and bond together as a team.
The main event of the Phoe-Day will be a charity liftathon event held at the Fitness Hub, Tamworth, raising money for Help for Heroes. With the aim being to break a collective target of over 50,000kg lifted, participants will select a weight to complete as many repetitions of bench press as possible with.
While Phoenix participants can be individually sponsored and are advised to download sponsorship forms via the official team Facebook group (files section), donations can also be made right up to Phoe-Day by visiting justgiving.com/tamworthphoenix or by texting ‘TUOY62 £2’ to 70070 to donate £2.
The ‘Phamily’ ethos, Phoenix-family, will be a strong part of the day. At Corey’s Sports Bar, the Phamily will be able to enjoy Tamworth’s best sports, music, food, drinks and entertainment venue as they fuel up for the charity liftathon event. But the team meal will also be an opportunity for players to talk with coaches and to get feedback from both the previous Organised Team Actvity and the rest of the preseason so far.
The Organised Team Activity marks the start of the Phoe-Day, beginning at 9am at the Atherstone Sports Hub (CV9 1LX) for the Phoenix adult, youth and junior teams. With the preseason debut at ‘Fortress Atherstone’ for the 2016 Phoenix teams heralding the return of American Football action to the Sports Hub in the Spring, players will look to perform well through individual drills, unit development workouts and the culmination of the morning session in a section of team competition.
“We can’t wait to get out there and compete as a team.” Said Tamworth Phoenix President James Hossack. “It’s been a long time since we played our last game of the 2015 season at the Atherstone Sports Hub, while Phoe-Day represents another opportunity to prepare as a team for the British American Football National Leagues season. I’m really looking forward Phoe-Day as a whole and I’d like to thank everyone who helps us raise some money for a great cause in the Help for Heroes charity.”
With Phoe-Day involving what will be the Phoenix adult team’s fourth Organised Team Activity of the preseason and another training session for the youth and junior teams, the day represents another step in the program’s preparations for the 2016 season. Despite their being little time to spare until a campaign pursuing nothing less than highest levels of British American football begins, there will be many more steps to be taken both on and off the field by the Phoenix program.
