Appointment of New Head Coach

Following the Tamworth Phoenix AGM last week, the team are pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Scott to the position of Head Coach for the 2018 season.

After former Head Coach Martin Hilton stepped down, following an undefeated season, the committee knew that the position would need to be someone with the ambition and ability to continue to lead the Phoenix and retain the National Title. Club President, James Hossack explains “Obviously, Martin Hilton is a massive loss as Head Coach, considering the success he has brought to the team. But, with Jason’s infectious enthusiasm, desire to win and deep knowledge of the game, I have no doubt he is the best possible replacement. I am sure he will continue to lead the seniors to even greater heights.”

With Coach Scott’s fourteen years of coaching experience, including six years as the Head Coach for Loughborough University, and currently Head Coach of University of Nottingham, he has also had the opportunity to coach ‘across the pond’ at Endicott College and Mississippi State. Coach Scott has also spent two years on the BAFA board as Vice President. As an experienced Phoenix coach, he lives and breathes the Phamily ethos and was the prime candidate for the Head Coach role.

Coach Scott is excited and ready for the challenge, he comments “It’s a great privilege and honour to be asked to become head coach of the Tamworth Phoenix. I’ve been at Tamworth from the very beginning, and have seen the program grow to the team it is today. I’ve been there at the highlights, but I’ve also been there at the low points. I know what it takes to succeed at Tamworth, and I don’t want to let the PHAMILY down. Following coach Hilton is going to be a tough act, he’s transformed the program, and turned the Nix into National Champions. Every team will be gunning for us, as we attack a second consecutive National championship. I’m confident that – with the family first ethos, we’ve installed – we will go from strength to strength, as we look to build on our strengths and develop our weaknesses. I’m excited to get going and am ready for the challenge.”

The Tamworth Phoenix are ready and preparing for their next chapter, check out the Tamworth Facebook page for latest updates and events.
